Get Active

It's active schools week! Try to get lots of exercise every day. You could make an obstacle course at home. Here's one done with chalk.

Wiktoria's Yummy Banana Pops

Look at these lovely banana pops Wiktoria made. They look delicious! Thanks for the photo Wiktoria. I think I'll try making these myself.

Family Art

It's the weekend! I hope you all take time to have some fun this weekend. Here is a little art idea that you can do with your family. It will be a reminder in years to come of all the time you spent at home with your family.

Senior Infants Big Grow Project

Over the Easter holidays your peas and carrots grew and grew! They got so big I had to transfer them into a bigger pot. Here are some pictures.

Welcome Back Senior Infants

Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a lovely Easter break. My name is Ms McCorriston and I will be teaching you for the rest of the school year. Some of you might remember me from when you were in Junior Infants. I'm looking forward to seeing you all in school but in the meantime I've posted some work below to keep you busy.

This week we are working on our addition. Remember we can use all sorts of objects to help us with number work. Here are some examples. Why not try this at home?

Work for 20th - 25th April

Friday 3rd April

Good morning Senior Infants,

On Fridays we always complete dictation and oral language activities at school, you can do both of these at home too!

Dictation

Ask a big brother or sister or a grown up to read each sentence out loud as you write them down onto a piece of paper or in a copy.

The spring is strong.
We went to the farm.
I swim in the big pool.

Oral Language

Have a look at the Easter bunny hat that Anita made yesterday, very creative!

Holly also made her tricky word rainbow, she chose the tricky word 'here' and its so colourful!

Wiktoria is ready for Easter with her wonderful Easter bunny hat!

Martynas was very busy as he helped make bunny hats for each member of his family!

Remember Senior Infants that after today you are on your Easter holidays! You will be off for two weeks and over those two weeks I don't want you to worry about school work. Keep up with a little reading each day and remember to continue helping out at home but other than that I want you all to focus on having fun with your families at home and feasting on an Easter egg or two! These are strange times at the moment but each and every one of you have made a fantastic effort to keep up with your school work and for that I say thank you and I'm very proud of you!

Enjoy your holidays and stay safe.

Thursday 2nd April

Good Morning Senior Infants,

Here is a fun piece of Easter Art for you to try today, Easter Bunny Hats!

They're nice and straight forward but you may need some help from an older brother or sister or a grownup for some of the cutting out.

To make this bunny hat you will need;
white card,
pieces of different coloured card for the ears, nose, mouth and whiskers,
a marker
scissors
glue/ sellotape

I understand you may not have a variety of coloured card at home so be creative and use any materials that you can find. You could even make this bunny hat using junk art materials from your recycling bin!

Once you have everything you need you will need to trace the outline of the bunny hat on the white piece of cat. Trace a large cone on the piece of paper making sure the bottom is a lot wider than the top.

Cut out the cone and with either sellotape or glue stick the two open ends together.

Using different coloured card or colour in some white card yourself, draw whiskers, eyes and a nose. Cute these out and stick them on the front of your bunny hat.

Using a marker draw a simple mouth on the front of your bunny hat under the nose.

On another piece of card, design ears for your bunny. Cut out the ears and stick them on the back of your hat, look at how the ears stick out over the hat in the picture. To make your ears doubly secure before you stick them down you cut small slits into the back of your hat and place the bottom of the ears through the slits before you stick them down.

Then you're all finished! Let me know how you get on- amcmahon@killygarryns.ie

Well done to Wiktoria who completed her tricky word rainbow yesterday. Wiktoria chose the tricky word 'they'!

Martynas also completed his tricky word rainbow yesterday and it looks fantastic! He also chose the tricky word 'they'. Martynas has been extra busy at home, he's been doing school work each day and he has been growing plants at home with his Mum too! Martynas and his Mum are growing cucumbers and you can see the leaves of the cucumber plant have sprouted already, amazing work!

Have fun!

Wednesday 1 April 2020

Good morning Senior Infants,

Here's a fun and colourful way to practise writing our tricky words.
First draw a rainbow with two clouds at either end, you may need some help to draw the rainbow and clouds.
Next choose one tricky word and write it in each cloud.
Then find markers or crayons for the colours of the rainbow.
Finally write the word in each colour from one cloud over to the next cloud.

Try some of these tricky words;

You'll be glad to hear that your plants are continuing to grow really well. Lots of the cress stalks have grown really tall and are nearly ready to be harvested and used. We can eat the cress and add it to egg sandwiches or to a salad.

The pea shoots have grown really tall and they're a darker green and thicker than the cress.

The baby carrots have finally started to grow up from the compost. Charlotte's has grown up over the top of the paper cup and they look great. Charlotte is this week's star grower!

Well done to Eva who used planks of wood to make 2d shapes in her back garden! Fantastic effort Eva and lovely to see your smiley face doing some outdoor learning!

Have fun!
