Butterflies have finally arrived!

Finally after much anticipation from 27 very excited senior infants, 3 butterflies have hatched from their chrysalides and have completed their transformation from tiny caterpillars.

It was unfortunate the butterflies didn't arrive on time before we finished up for summer but I think senior infants had set up such a comfortable environment for them that they were too cozy inside their chrysalides! Now they have entered the outside world we need to feed them their nectar and we will release them in a day or two and they can begin their life in the outdoor world!

Senior Infants have made their own pesto!

Over the past few months we have learnt a lot about planting and cultivating different vegetables at school. In groups we planted three different types of vegetables. Ms McMahon gave each group a large planter and we planted a variety of cress, carrots, tomatoes and peas.

We decorated and painted our planters and labelled the area of soil so we knew which plants were which. Each day we placed our planters out in the sun outside our classroom and each afternoon we put them back into the classroom. We took turns to check their progress each day and to water them.

After a while our plants were starting to flourish! We noticed that the cress had grown the quickest and it needed to be cut. We wanted to make something with it and we had the idea to make cress pesto!

Together we cut the cress and placed it into a blender with some cheese, olive oil, salt, pepper and a little bit of garlic. We blitzed it altogether into a smooth mixture. Ms McMahon brought in some brown bread and spread a little pesto on the bread for us to taste. Everyone was so excited and eager to taste.  The taste test went well and soon everyone wanted more!

It was brilliant for all of the senior infants to see something planted as a seed could be harvested and made into food right in our classroom. Everyone in senior infants should be very proud of their fantastic gardening skills!

On Friday we replanted the peas, carrots and tomatoes so everyone could take some home and continue their gardening over the summer holidays.

Sports Day 2021

Check out our photos of our senior infants enjoying their sports day. We had a great day the 3G pitch.  Everyone showed off their talents and skills and everyone received a well deserved medal at the end of the day.
